Hi,
there should be a rubber "O" ring between the cable's end and the round top of the engine case. If there isn't, it got lost the last time someone removed the tank (for this, you have to take the cable out and the O-ring gets lost very easily).
Just place any fitting rubber ring inbetween and that's it.
